Q: When should I request a delivery?
- OIL: We ask that you contact the office when your oil tank is between ½ and ¼.
- PROPANE: We ask that you contact the office when your propane tank is between 40-35%.
Delivery requests take 3-5 business days to process.
ORDER NOWQ: I want to order fuel from Dutch Oil & Propane. How do I get started?
A: If you haven’t ordered propane from us before, please visit this page to make sure you are located in our service area. Then, complete this New Customer form.
Q: How do I protect my heating oil or propane price for the season?
A: Customers who burn > 500 gallons of fuel a season are eligible for price protection. Please contact our office or log into the online portal to review your options. (Contract making is not yet available through the app, online portal only).
Q: What should I do to prepare for a delivery?
A: Please keep your driveway and any access paths to your propane tank or clear of ice and snow so that our delivery team can complete your fuel delivery safely. Also, please be sure to unlock any gates or entrances the delivery driver will need to access your tank.
Q: What are the requirements for a service plan?
A: The Service Plans are a benefit for automatic delivery customers with equipment in good condition. Preexisting conditions are not covered by the service plan. Refusing delivery or cancelling automatic delivery would void the service plan.
Q: How do I cancel automatic delivery?
A: Requests to change delivery status must be submitted in writing for our records. You can mail in a notice or email us if you would like to make any changes to your delivery status. Please allow 1-3 business days for us to process any changes to your delivery status. Cancelling automatic delivery voids price protection, 24/7 on call emergency service, service plans, and loyalty points.

WHAT WE DOQ: How do I check my tank level?
A: To check your heating oil or propane tank gauge, follow the steps below:
- OIL: Most oil tanks have a tank gauge on the top of the tank. If you suspect your tank gauge may be broken, please contact the office to schedule replacement. Underground oil tanks require you to stick the tank to check the oil level.
- PROPANE: Most propane tanks have a cap on the top of the tank that you can lift up to reveal a gauge. The gauge reads off of percentages. Propane tanks are only ever filled to 80% capacity.
Q: What do I do if I do not have heat?
A: Follow this short checklist to troubleshoot your heating system:
- Check your heating oil or propane tank gauge. Do you have fuel left in your tank? If your tank is empty, call Dutch Oil & Propane immediately at (860) 873-3876.
- If you have propane in your tank, check your thermostat. Make sure it is set to HEAT and that the COOL function is not on instead.
- Check that all heating system emergency switches are in the ON position.
- Press the RESET button on your heating system ONCE ONLY.
If you’ve performed all of the above steps and you still don’t have heat, call our 24/7 emergency service line at (860) 873-3876 right away.

Q: What type of propane heating system do I have?
A: There are two types of central heating systems: forced hot water (also known as a boiler) and forced hot air (also known as a furnace). The easiest way to tell which type you have is by the kind of heaters you have in your home. If you have vents, your home is heated by forced hot air or a furnace. If you have baseboard heat or radiators, your home is heated by forced hot water or a boiler.
